Thanks to the guidance of Taylor, and following major label bidding wars, DaBaby landed a seven-figure recording deal with Interscope.

In November of 2018, while shopping with his family at a Walmart in Huntersville, North Carolina, Kirk was approached by several men.

An altercation broke out and gunfire ensued, resulting in the death of 19-year-old Jalyn Domonique Craig. Kirk, while involved in the dispute, did not admit to firing the fatal shots and was not charged with any crime connected to the incident.

After releasing several mixtapes between 2014 and 2018, DaBaby rose to mainstream prominence in 2019.

His debut studio album Baby on Baby (2019) peaked at number seven on the Billboard 200, while his second studio album, Kirk (2019), debuted at number one.
