The Boswords Winter Wondersolve is later this afternoon. Good luck to all who are competing. If you didn’t sign up to solve live, you can still solve them as a puzzle pack starting on Monday.
I also wanted to give credit to a few folks working behind the scenes at Puzzle Headquarters since they recently saved me from, well, myself. Last week’s “Freezer Packs” puzzle featured the answers SERENA and ROVE crossing at the R, but when I originally had the puzzle test-solved, those answers were SELENA and LOVE. I changed the L to an R after testing to preserve a couple of clues that I liked which contained the word “love,” and I made the appropriate changes to write two new clues for SERENA and ROVE. What I hadn’t realized was that 123A in that puzzle was EROS, and the clue I’d submitted in the final copy had been [God of 67 Down], cross-referenced to the now nonexistent answer LOVE. I just forgot to change it. This was a careless mistake that, by the time I caught it (two days before publication), I was convinced was too late to change because the Sunday Arts & Style section of the newspaper is printed early.
